The Club

Edinburgh Wrestling Club is based out of [EN]GAGE Sports and Fitness Centre at Edinburgh Napier University's Sighthill campus. The club was started in September 2012 and officially registered with the British Wrestling Association in January 2013. We are a Freestyle Wrestling Club, and the only one in Edinburgh, so if you fancy giving wrestling a shot you can compete for our club. If you just want to train and get some fitness and new skills to compliment your other sport then that's fine as well. Due to an injury to our juniors coach we are currently working on a solution to continue running the juniors section. We will update as soon as possible. Senior sessions (16+) from 6:00pm - 7:30pm.

Excellent Facilities

Edinburgh Wrestling Club is a community club and open to absolutely anyone - men and women, boys and girlsof all shapes and sizes as long as you are over the age of 8 years old. Our facilities are superb, courtesy of [EN]GAGE at Edinburgh Napier University. We have a full size competition mat that is on loan from Scottish Wrestling Association and it's the only one in the city. Although we are based out of the University, we are a community club and  welcome anyone to come along and train and even better compete!

Quality Coaches

We are lucky enough to have some absolutely outstanding and experienced coaches at the club. Michael Cavanagh is our head coach. Michael is a former Commonwealth Athlete competing for Scotland in the Brisbane Commonwealth Games in 1982. Michael takes the main training session on a Wednesday and teaches the basics right through to more advanced techniques. Michael has a very hands on coaching style and adapts to suit his learners to ensure they get the best from the session.

Steven Cote is our assistant coach and has a wealth of knowledge of the sport. Originally a collegiate wrestler Steven is a European Silver medallist and provides an alternative perspective on techniques to conventional freestyle which is a added bonus for our wrestlers. Steve recently compelted his UKCC Level 2 Wrestling qualification.

Mike Wallace is our juniors coach, Mike is fairly new to the sport and is a UKCC Level 2 Wrestling  coach and has a wealth of experience in coaching rugby league so understands how to make sessions the best they can be, making sure they are fun and enjoyable whilst getting across the key message.

Valued Volunteers

We have a very small number of volunteers who are running the club and we are always looking for more people to get involved and help out even if they haven't got any experience in sports clubs or in Wrestling. You don't even have to want to train or compete to help out with Edinburgh Wrestling Club. Our goals are develop Wrestling in the Edinburgh and produce future athletes for the Commonwealth Games and potentially the Olympics. If you fancy a new challenge, get in touch and feel free to come along to any of our training sessions and have a chat with the guys.
